Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews. With STS, you can feature what books you have recently won, been gifted, borrowed, received for review, etc.
Thought I'd try a Stacking The Shelves this week! I got an ebook of Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia, an ARC paperback of The Lost Sun by Tessa Gratton, and an ARC paperback of A Not So Pretty Girl by Carolita Blythe. What did you get?
Page Morgan (Author of The Beautiful and The Cursed)
Her new young adult paranormal novel features gargoyles. I asked why she picked gargoyles, instead of vampires, werewolves, etc.
She responded: "Gargoyles were a mystery to me--I hadn't read anything about them before and that appealed to my imagination. I'd read vampire and werewolf and mermaid and angel novels before and I didn't feel like I had anything to add to the collection. So I decided to strike out and try something new!"

Title: Awakened (House of Night book 8) by P.C. Cast
Publisher: St. Martin's Paperbacks
Release Date: July 19, 2013
Genres: Fantasy, Paranormal, Drama, Romance
Medium: Paperback, bought
I swear, P.C. and Kristin Cast can do no wrong. They have created yet another great House of Night novel, and the series just keeps getting better and better. In this exciting sequel, Zoey and Stark have affirmed their connection while vacationing on the Isle of Skye. And while Zoey is learning of her affinity for the ancient magick, Neferet has killed one of her friends as a debt payment to darkness and to make sure Zoey returns to the House of Night, since Kalona's failed attempt. Neferet also accuses Rephaim and Stevie Rae of being tied to darkness, and for them to be killed. Kalona interferes, Nyx appears, people ask for forgiveness, Neferet's ties to darkness strengthen, and a rebirth, a shared soul, and an unexpected death- all of these shake the foundation of the House of Night.

Tom Leveen (Author of Party, Zero, and manicpixiedreamgirl)
"I'd say most of the similarities are hidden to me, because I tend to be highly conscious of how I've changed since high school. A lot of it, I miss. For example, I used to be much more fearless then, and a little bit of that can go a long way. But I also used to be a lot less empathetic. Partly that was age, but mostly it was just being selfish. Not proud of that. There's plenty of ways I wish I'd done things differently back then than I would do now.
I'd say my habits and hobbies are largely the same, though, yeah. Writing and doing theatre stuff stayed the same, of course. There are hobbies I would do if my friends and I had more time to do them."
When asked in what ways he was similar to the main character in his next book manicpixiedreamgirl, he says:
"As for Tyler, I'd say we're pretty similar, except that I think he's a better person than I was back then. For all his mistakes and shortcomings, I think he's genuinely a good person, and I really wonder sometimes if I ever was. (Some people tell me I was, but one way I'm still the same: I tend to only believe the negative press!)"
I read and reviewed the ARC of his new book manicpixiedreamgirl and my reaction was definitely not negative! Read it here!
